The Not Pink, Pink House Replica
Oil on Stretched Canvas
12" x 16"
As I was painting this, an occupant of the home walked over and told me the story the origin story of this house. In 1924 there was a controversy in the neighborhood around Forsyth Park, as they were planning on building a gas station where this house now stands. The woman directly across Drayton decided to buy it to stop this from happening. She built this smaller replica of what is now known as "The Pink House" a very well known landmark in Savannah GA. The color used to be the same, yet, this homes exterior was plaster finished over concrete blocking while the Pink House is over red brick...decades of time caused the brick to seep through. Fascinating ... I love the soft blue shutters and the gray plaster, the grainy tecture and the cool pink of the morning sun. also - if you read the passage with a deep southern drawl, so did I hear in my mind while writing this haha
