I enjoy painting scenes like this. I find them so interesting and yet so overlooked. The gas meter seemed mildly aggressive in its protection of whatever is hidden behind the bars. This scene could be around any corner in any town here in the southeast... or beyond. Inspiration for this painting was found one hot and humid summer afternoon in Cartersville, GA.
